The Central Nervous System Review

When I was a medical student in the 1960s, one of my favorite books was Neurological Anatomy by Alf Brodal. Alf's son Per has progressively updated the earlier work and the fourth edition is the best yet. The text is authoritative and up-to-date but easy to read. It is comprehensive but never over-complicated. In my opinion it it is the most accessible reference on the anatomy of the human brain. However, it is not a research oriented book like the the Paxinos and Mai edited text - it seems to me more aimed at high level undergraduate students or practicing physicians. It is a pleasure to read a book that has a single author, who happens also to be a very clear writer. In my opinion, he has taken all the best features of the original Alf Brodal book and rewritten them for a 21st century audience.
The only concern I have in regard to this book is the declining state of undergraduate neuroanatomy. I do not know of many undergraduate courses that would match up to a book with this much detail.
